英文原文：After World War II, the imperial warriors embarked on a bitter struggle to maintain control of the former colonies as the Union Jack was finally lowered across the globe. Communists, nationalists, and religious guerrillas saw an opportunity in the dangerous power vacuum left by the British Empire. Colonel Colin "Mad Mickey" Mitchell led his Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on June 20, 1967, to retake the volcanic region in Aden, breaking the British neutrality policy in the city. Despite warning that 500 well-armed insurgent police and terrorists were heavily entrenched in the area, Mitchell was determined to reoccupy it, even after the British troops had been withdrawn, resulting in 22 deaths. The Jewish War In 1946, Jewish guerrillas bombed the King David Hotel in British-mandated Palestine, killing 91 people. The United Kingdom announced to the United Nations that it would terminate its mandate over Palestine and turn the issue over to the UN. The Arab states and the Palestinian Arabs rejected the UN partition, claiming all the land was theirs. The Jews accepted the plan and declared the State of Israel on May 14, 1948, under the leadership of David Ben-Gurion. President Truman of the United States immediately recognized Israel, and shortly thereafter the Soviet Union did as well. The next day, Israel was attacked by the Arab states and the Palestinians, leading to the outbreak of the first Arab-Israeli war. Intelligence War In 1948 in Malaya, it took five years to turn the tide against communist guerrillas. However, a combination of improved intelligence, generous bounties for dead terrorists, and a policy of denying the enemy food and starving them out of the jungle provided the much-needed assistance in securing victory. The Search for Kimathi The final installment tells the story of the charismatic Mau Mau guerrilla leader Dedan Kimathi, who led Kenya's fight against British rule in the 1950s and was executed just days before the country gained independence.
